New Media Job Interview? New Interview Questions.
Alex Nicholson and I teamed up and crafted ?'s to guide an assessment of social marketing/new media acumen. The list is good. And it's great insight to share with prospective candidates and hiring managers alike so here goes:
screening question-set to discover social marketing acumen
From the HR guy:
1. Please describe the strategic and tactical elements of a social marketing program you have lead or are currently leading.
2. How do you monitor a social marketing campaign? How do you measure results?
3. In your observation, what company or brand has smartly and effectively utilized social media channels for a marketing purpose?
4. Detail a marketing tool within Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn that any brand committed to a social marketing campaign should know how to use. Why?
5. What are some best practices related to engaging with online brand communities?
6. Describe your approach to training colleagues about social media.
7. What are some trends in social marketing that excite you?
From the New Media gal:
1. Do they have Linked In, Twitter in their personal info.
2. Is the content on their Twitter a good indicator of who they are.
3. Is their LinkedIn up to date and do they have good references or mentions tied back to social.
4. On their resume, do they have examples of work-related social media efforts (managed a FB page, ran a social campaign).
5. Do they list any of these on their skills: Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, Radian6 (or similar social listening).
6. Do they avoid terms like guru, expert, master (all bad signs).
